Fiber Laser Cutting Precision Control and Process Optimization in Sheet Metal Fabrication

2026-04-10
Latest company news about Fiber Laser Cutting Precision Control and Process Optimization in Sheet Metal Fabrication

Sheet metal fabrication is one of the fundamental processes in modern manufacturing, and the mature application of fiber laser cutting technology has brought revolutionary changes to precision sheet metal processing. Compared to traditional stamping and shearing processes, laser cutting can achieve high-precision processing of complex contours without dies.

Precision Foundation of Laser Cutting

Fiber laser cutting machines use high-energy-density laser beams as processing tools, with focused spot diameters controllable within 0.1-0.3mm range. This focusing characteristic results in narrow kerf widths and small heat-affected zones. For 2mm thick carbon steel plates, cutting accuracy can reach ±0.05mm, with repeat positioning accuracy within ±0.02mm.

Critical Impact of Process Parameters

Cutting quality is closely related to the matching of process parameters. Laser power, cutting speed, assist gas pressure, and nozzle standoff distance are the four core parameters. Taking 3mm stainless steel plate as an example, 2000W laser power is recommended, with cutting speed controlled at 1.5-2m/min, and nitrogen assist pressure maintained at 1.0-1.5MPa.

Assist Gas Selection Strategy

The choice of assist gas directly affects cut surface quality and processing efficiency. Oxygen cutting is suitable for carbon steel, providing higher cutting speeds, but the cut surface will have an oxide layer. Nitrogen cutting is suitable for stainless steel and aluminum alloys, producing bright, oxide-free cut surfaces.
