Large CNC Machined Aluminum Chassis for a Digital Radiography System

A medical imaging company needed a large aluminum chassis for their new digital radiography system. The part dimensions were 1200mm x 800mm x 100mm, requiring tight flatness and accurate positioning of various mounting holes. They needed 20 units.

Client Challenges

The large size of the part made it challenging for many shops, and maintaining flatness over such a large area was difficult. The client also required delivery within 4 weeks.

Our Solution

We used our large-bed CNC milling machine capable of handling parts up to 1500mm x 1000mm. We started with a solid aluminum block, performed rough machining, then allowed the part to rest to release internal stress before performing finish machining to maintain flatness.

During machining, we used a probing system to check dimensions and identify any issues early. Final inspection was done using our CMM for mounting hole positions and flatness.

Final Result

We delivered 20 chassis within 3.5 weeks, and all parts met the required tolerances. The client successfully integrated the chassis into their new system on schedule and has now designated PFT World as their preferred supplier for all large aluminum precision parts going forward.
